The naturally beautiful and translucent fire protection treatment is suitable for different types of wood from interior and cladding panels to CLT elements and other timber construction products.
Fire protection treatment with non-toxic Nordtreat flame retardants meets the requirements of class B-s1, d0 and enables a beautiful wooden surface finish in both indoor and outdoor use, even in the most demanding locations.
There is a certified production system for the most common product groups that are treated with Nordtreat flame retardants. When the manufacturer of wood products complies with the system, they can obtain a CE marking for their industrially fire protected products. If necessary, products can also be treated with our flame retardants at a construction site.
Fire protection of visible wood products in buildings can be done industrially or on-site. An industrial treatment enables the production of certified ready-to-use products. This will speed up a construction project and ensure that the fire class requirements are met. On-site treatments in accordance with the instructions must be separately approved by building control authorities.
An industrial fire protection treatment with NT DECO can be certified for products made of various types of wood. Nordtreat has had the treatment system certified for the most common products and therefore the manufacturers can apply for a CE marking in accordance with standard EN 14915: 2013 after the treatment process passes an inspection in compliance with Nordtreat’s certifications. Less common products and structures can be tested and certified individually in cooperation with Nordtreat.
In Finland the fire protection of cladding panels must meet the requirements of fire class B-s1, d0 in fire class P1 buildings that are no more than 56 metres in height. Typically, such buildings include apartment buildings, nursing homes, schools and other public buildings.

In addition to fire protection, panels treated with translucent Nordtreat fire retardants are well protected from the effects of sunlight and weather. The fire protection treatment also strengthens the wood’s natural protection against mould and decay.
Cladding panels that are industrially treated with Nordtreat fire retardants speed up a construction project because they will not require a coating or maintenance treatment in connection with the installation. Only cut surfaces are to be treated with the same fire retardant and tone that was used during the production process. In outdoor use, Nordtreat fire protection lasts 5 to 15 years, depending on the location. It is recommended that the re-treatment is done using the same product as the original fire protection treatment.
CE marked cladding panels that are industrially treated with translucent Nordtreat fire retardants are produced by many manufacturers. We will help designers and builders find suitable suppliers of cladding products treated with Nordtreat fire retardants.
In Finland, fire protection of panels used on interior walls and ceilings must meet the requirements of fire class B-s1, d0 in for example:
In indoor use, panels treated with Nordtreat fire retardants, either industrially or on-site in accordance with the instructions, maintain their fire protection capacity throughout their life cycle unless the wooden surface is damaged. The damaged area must be treated with the same product that was used for the original fire protection treatment.

A non-toxic fire retardant also increases the safety of interior surfaces with regard to emissions. Nordtreat fire retardants have low emissions. They have been tested and are proven to meet the requirements of emission class M1.
CE marked interior panels that are industrially treated with translucent Nordtreat fire retardants are produced by many manufacturers. We will help designers and builders find suitable suppliers of interior panelling products treated with Nordtreat fire retardants.
CLT (cross-laminated timber) is a solid timber structure consisting of layers of wood glued together. The visible surfaces of CLT modules and other elements can be protected with non-toxic Nordtreat flame retardants in accordance with the requirements of fire class B-s1, d0.
Such structures typically include interior walls and ceilings, staircases, lift shafts, suspended balconies and entrance roofs.

CLT is regularly manufactured according to the European standard EN 16351. Many of the manufacturers still hold European Technical Assessments (ETA) as approval for the use of CLT in building and construction from the time before the harmonization of the standard. Either the EN or the ETA is basis for the CE marking of the CLT.
In case of treatment of the CLT with a flame retardant the improved reaction
to fire class according to EN 13501, B-s1, d0 for example, achieved through the treatment, will be written in the declaration of performance (DOP) in replacement of the standard reaction to fire class (D in most cases). This is only valid if the manufacturer of the CLT treats the product himself or by third party under his control in his premises, as he is considered a manufacturer according to CE marking regulations.
If the product is treated by a third party outside the control of the manufacturer either in a treatment facility or onsite once posed or erected, the treatment company is responsible for the documentation towards the building authorities.
Nordtreat holds a list of experienced treatment companies in the different markets that can provide a high-level service and guarantee a safe result of the treatment procedure. The reaction to fire class of B-s1, d0 according to EN 13501 is achieved by treating the visible surface of the CLT with 350 g/m² of NT DECO flame retardant. The product can be applied by roller, brush or high-pressure spray gun, usually in 3-4 layers. The application methods and the intermediate drying time are subject to the treatment conditions and are documented in NT DECO Technical datasheet. Please also consult Nordtreat’s technical support for any questions related to the treatment of CLT.
Many other wood products can also be treated with Nordtreat flame retardants in accordance with the requirements of fire class B-s1, d0. Such products include:
